Moustache Man and I found this gem of a photo spot on a stroll through the neighborhood. Even though I get embarrassed taking photos in public, it’s actually been fun looking for cool settings. MM has been trying to push for the indoor shots again, but I put my foot down. No more boring photos, I said!
Are we all looking forward to Fashion Week? I know I am. Yeah, yeah, yeah! Or as C would say, “Sparkle fuck!”

Grids rock.
There’s always that person in class who is quick to be critical of everyone else’s work. If you’re going to do that you better make damn sure that your stuff is perfect. Because if it isn’t, it just makes you suck that much more. We did grid replicas in class last week. I chose this pic of Katharine Hepburn because I think her expression captures perfectly the type of woman she is; she doesn’t take life too seriously. She also got flack for her fashion sense because she was a bit unpolished. I love outsiders.

connect the bone

Remember the bone song? The arm bone’s connected to the hip bone . . . something like that. Yeah, I never sang it as a kid. Nor did I sing the states or presidents song. Mary Bragg Bobcats rule.
Here’s the ensemble I wore to the Creatures of Comfort/VPL Fall 2010 trunk show. My old co-worker went too, but I missed her. What a tiny little city we live in!
A few weeks ago, C invited me to a girl’s shindig at her place. We were in a creative mood and made jewelry together. She had the most gorgeous chains, a perfectly weighted nickel and an awesome matte black. This is the first diy necklace that I really love and I’ve been wearing it almost everyday. So, I highly recommend getting a C in your life. They’re tons of fun to hang out with and feed you gourmet salmon dishes for dinner.

Frame it

When Moustache Man and I were first dating, we made this shirt together. Usually, I dislike graphic tees with sayings like ‘Italian Stallion’ and ‘I like cupcakes,’ but I thought this one was funny. To be honest, I’ve only worn it once because I thought it might be controversial. Thank goodness it was received with good humor.
Moustache Man and I have lots of stories together, but he has an awful memory. This is one that I’ll keep safe for him in extraskinny history!

My sister gave me a necklace and took it back. So I said, “Whatever, I’ll make some myself. How hard could it be?” Well, it’s pretty hard. The first one I made looked like smokey quartz and metal throw up. The problem was my trying to make something ornate and showy when that’s not my style at all. So, the second time around I ignored what I thought I should make and came up with this little guy. It’s two strands of beads with metal cylinders that can slide around. Much more me.
I sent it to my friend L, who has always been a loyal supporter of the blog. She’s extremely creative, so I asked her to send me a pic of the necklace as she saw fit. It reminds me of an impressionist painting and I love it. I find that design pressure lessens when you’re making things for friends. They’re like doting parents; you could give them a piece of cardboard and they’d say you were a genius. So for now my jewelry making will be a creative project between me and my friends.
